Carbon Flux

Objective: To assess the exchange of trace gases (particularly CO2 and CH4) between the Canadian arctic landscape and the atmosphere.

Researchers in the carbon flux group use a variety of approaches to measure and understand the flow of carbon into and out of tundra ecosystems, including: flux towers, gas chromatographs and various static chambers attached to infrared gas analyzers. The research compares how fluxes and processes that control them vary over different tundra types and throughout the growing season.
